Freenance Sync — Automatic Bank Sync That Runs on Your Computer
Freenance Sync is a free desktop app that automatically pulls transactions from your banks (via Enable Banking) and pushes them into Freenance. Your bank credentials never leave your machine.
Freenance Sync — your bank transactions land in Freenance by themselves
Freenance Sync is a small desktop app (macOS, Windows, Linux) that pulls new transactions from your banks once a day and pushes them into Freenance automatically — AI-categorized, deduplicated, with live account balances.
The key point: your bank credentials never leave your computer. Freenance never sees your passwords, keys, or bank consents — it only receives ready, normalized transactions.
How it works
The app talks to banks through Enable Banking — a regulated European open-banking (PSD2) interface covering 2,500+ banks across 29 countries. You create your own free account there — you are the consent party, not us.
- Download the app from Configuration → Integrations → Freenance Sync.
- Pair it with your Freenance account — the app shows a short code (e.g.
WXYZ-2345) that you type into the Freenance website. No webhooks, no keys to copy. - Set up Enable Banking — the wizard walks you through it step by step: create the free account, register an application, generate a key (one ready-to-copy command). One-time, ~5 minutes.
- Connect your bank — pick it from the list and log in on your side, in your browser, exactly like online banking.
- Done. Transactions appear in Freenance daily at the hour you choose. The app lives in the system tray and catches up by itself if your computer was off.
What happens to your accounts
- Accounts with an IBAN are matched automatically to your Freenance accounts — zero clicks. If an account doesn't exist yet, it's created with its real balance and bank logo.
- Accounts without an IBAN (e.g. some e-wallets) show up in Freenance under "Accounts awaiting mapping" — link them to an existing account or create a new one with a single click.
- Account balances refresh on every sync.
Security
- The Enable Banking key and tokens are stored only in your computer's OS keychain (Keychain/Credential Manager) — never in files, never on our servers.
- Bank access is read-only — a PSD2 AIS consent cannot move money.
- Inside Freenance the app holds only the permission to push transactions. It cannot read your portfolio or change settings. Every paired device is listed in your settings and can be revoked with one click.
- The bank consent expires per PSD2 rules (typically ~90 days) — the app reminds you ahead of time to renew it.
Availability
Freenance Sync is available on every Freenance plan — including the trial — and does not consume daily import limits. App syncs are unlimited under normal use.
Freenance Sync vs CSV import
Prefer not to install anything? Manual CSV/MT940 statement imports still work — Freenance Sync is simply more convenient: no exporting files, no remembering to import, with real balances and automatic account matching.
